Over the past couple of months we have seen amazing progress from Justin across a range of different skills including his Olympic weightlifting and gymnastic abilities. Justin has been very determined to improve his health and fitness taking initiative in identifying some weaknesses and setting himself goals to work towards. Putting in extra work and time is not easy and it is great to see someone so committed to getting the most out of their training. Justin is a very hard worker and I have no doubt will do some amazing things through CrossFit in the future! Well done mate!

The Bring It On CrossFit Member of the Month for December 2015 is Jenny O'Connor. If you haven't yet me Jenny at the box than make sure you do! The energy Jenny brings to every workout and every competition is incredible, and she is no doubt one of the toughest individuals at the BIOCF Box! Jenny was one of very few that conquered the 12 hour Hurricane Heat Spartan Event last month and finished 6th with Claire this past weekend at the SOS Warrnambool 2 Day Event! Jenny has also been a strong promoter of our CrossFit Kids program, with daughter Siena one of our regulars, no doubt taking after her mum with great enthusiasm and determination taking on every challenge! Congrats Jenny, well deserved winner! This weekend myself and four Brave comrades from the Box tackled the 12 Hour Spartan Hurricane heat. Some people might question why (including myself), but after some reflection post weekend it all made sense. A couple of months ago Brendan started recruiting for the 12 Hour Hurricane Heat and Jenny, Janine and Maddie all put their hands up for the event, and I soon followed being immediately impressed by this groups sheer determination and commitment to a gruelling sounding event. This event was purely an unknown entity to all of us, but I watched this group band together from day 1 ready to showcase that Anything Is Possible. I have never classified myself as an endurance athlete but I do take any opportunity to team up with strong, positive, can do people like our Hurricane Team members (this was my why). After weeks of preparation our team rocked up at Simonds Stadium to represent Bring it On Crossfit, we each came armed with backpacks weighing between 10-15kg packed with items such as Rope, Chain 3/5kg in weight, Multi tool, Cable Ties, Glow Sticks, Duct Tape and the list goes on. As soon as we started it was clear that the trainers had a mission BREAK US and MAKE US QUIT, throughout the evening the common theme was “You can hand in your head band and go home now”. The challenge was equally physical as it was mental but we all approached it like a WOD tackling each section as it came, we used strategy and recovered when able. Physical challenges were thrown at us such as Burpees in the gravel (Pack on the back), many squat holds, Indoor rock climbing, numerous stair runs, rolling through a paddock in pitch dark after consuming a raw egg/protein shake (Guts is still churning), army crawls through the water onto the beach, reverse bear crawls up a hill, numerous swims, traverse climbing, all this was performed without access to a phone or watch. The trainers took great delight in giving false information in regard to time checks, but we all proved what we are made of at Bring It On Crossfit. On reflection of this experience our Hurricane Team appears to have all gotten something out of this experience and leave with mixed emotions such as satisfaction of ticking this event off the list (but no immediate plans to sign up again), or the couple of hard cores already planning the next big challenge. I think all of our diverse members at Bring it On Crossfit band together for a bigger cause then just working out, we are all their to face our own challenges and strive for our own personal Greatness. We are not all silly enough to enter an event such as the Hurricane Heat, but it always amazes me at Bring it On Crossfit how we provide genuine interest and strong community spirit to each other, whether it’s during the daily WOD, giving advice on a new skill, or competing we are always there together in some capacity. Finishing up the weekend our team knows we came and gave it our all showing that we strive to be “Better Than Yesterday”. Coach Aaron Congratulations Carly who has been awarded the Bring It On CrossFitter of the Month for November 2015.
Carly started training with us in March 2015 and has made amazing progress in regards to her strength and conditioning numbers since then. Being a regular at the 6am morning classes and attending training 4-5 times per week requires great determination and commitment to improving your health and fitness, and Carly continues to do this each and every week. Carly is one of those athletes that is great to coach as she rises to every challenge on the whiteboard with great fortitude which is an incredible strength to have! She has also been a great advocate for Bring It On CrossFit encouraging her friends to come along and give CrossFit a go and we are very thankful for this. Congratulations Carly and keep up the great work! |
