29/3/2017 0 Comments 2017 CrossFit Open Wrap Up!Another CrossFit Open in the books this week with the completion of Open workout 17.5! Congratulations to all of the Bring It On CrossFit Team that completed the 5 weeks and took part in what is always a great challenge!
This year we had 46 competitors (a BIOCF PR) boosted by the awesome Leisure Link team who showed up every Friday for Friday Night Lights! Last year we had 38 sign up so the number continues to grow each year!!! As always we are going to miss Friday Night Lights, and now not knowing what to do with our selves at 12pm on a Friday anticipating the next Dave Castro crazy challenge. Friday Night Lights again was a huge success with an average of 40 participants each week taking part and creating an unmatched community atmosphere! If you completed the WOD on Friday nights you were easily lifted an extra 10% by all the cheering and support! Of our 46 competitors we had 23 first timers competing in the Open which is amazing. Well done to all those first timers and we hope this year didn’t scare you off from coming back stronger and faster next year. For those that competed last year, I saw massive improvements! Using 17.4/16.4 as a benchmark, our members crushed their 2016 fitness levels, some adding 80-100 reps to their 16.4 scores!! The Open is always a great place for firsts. We had a number of firsts on the pull up bar, my most notable was Les with his first attempt at a Bar Muscle Up and just gliding over the bar then backing it up with a couple in the WOD! Cathryn repping out her first toes to bar and Maddi Brown’s determination to hit that 43kg Squat Snatch where some highlights as well! I was also very impressed with those who struggled to complete the Deadlifts in 16.4 last year and then managed to get onto the rower this year in 17.4 cruising through the 55 deadlifts at 100/70! Some special mentions and impressive overall placings: - Danny Russell, finished a top of the BIOCF leaderboard but also statistically crushing his 2016 results!! - Simone Bate finished 81st in Australia in the 35-39 age group! - Sav finishing 34th in Australia in the 45-49 age group and 595th in the World (top 200 in the world go through to the next stage) - Grace had a best placement overall finishing 541st in Australia! Last congratulations and special mention goes to Archie Keating and Rusty Bate who competed throughout this years Open taking on all of Dave Castro’s challenge sand posting some very impressive results. Well done boys, fantastic effort!! Congratulations again to everyone who took part, judged, helped set up and pack up. Thank you to Ash who took some of the Sunday sessions allowing people to complete the WOD then as well and Grace and Ash for helping out on Friday Nights. Well down everyone and I’m already looking forward to what is in store for 2018!! Cheers, Jared
